St John's School Values
A value is a belief that guides our thinking and our behaviour. At St John's, our values embody who we are and what we do. This is true for both children and staff. Values are intended to support the personal, social and spiritual development of every pupil throughout the school. Our values are shared with our local community through our assemblies and through class certificates. Our values are taught through our weekly assemblies, in our class reflection time and throughout the curriculum where pupils are encouraged to consider and question values in different contexts, deepening their understanding and engagement. Our values are a core element of our approach to behaviour as well. Our expectation is that the children we work with 'do the right things because they are the right things to do.' We encourage children to 'live the values' in all aspects of their lives both in school and out. We believe that this contributes to them becoming future adults who lead positive, fulfilling lives.
The St John's values are:
- Respect
- Kindness
- Confidence
- Tolerance
- Self-discipline

British Values
Alongside the school values, we work hard to promote the fundamental British Values to ensure that our pupils leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Fundamental British Values underpin what it is to be a citizen in a modern and diverse Great Britain valuing our community and celebrating diversity of the UK.
These values are:
- Democracy
- Rule of Law
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs
- Individual Liberty
These British Values are promoted throughout our curriculum and across the whole school. They also underpin assemblies, special events and cultural celebrations.
